The School of Engineering (SoE) through Civil Engineering Department in collaboration with National Construction Industry Council (NCIC) is inviting players in the construction industry to a short course on Concrete Practice and Technology. Fees: MK 250,000/ participant • The fee covers morning refreshments, lunch, tuition and Laboratory consumables • Fee payment is strictly through bank deposit. The bank details will be indicated in the offer letter • Payment must be made in advance Intended Learning Outcome: On completion of this course, participants should be able to design normal and high strength concrete mixes. Indicative content: • Concrete constituent material characterization through theory and practicals • Computation of concrete mix design using recognized international standards • Laboratory Preparation of trial mix designs • Testing of concrete trial specimens • Analysis and Interpretation of concrete test results • In-situ concrete quality assurance Note: At the end of the course, each participant will be given a certificate of attendance. This is a full research-based degree programme aiming at training PhD students to undertake civil engineering related research to be part of international community of scholars and industry leadership. On completion of the study students are able to: • Carryout research to contribute to the development of new knowledge and theories, methods, interpretations, and forms of documentation in the field. • Facilitate the continual development of a high level of cognitive knowledge, skills and attitudes and the development of engineering decision-making applications. • Perform other types of work with exacting requirements in terms of scientific insight and analytical thinking in accordance with sound scientific practice and established standards for research ethic

This is a research-based degree programme aiming at training MPhil students to undertake civil engineering related research, and to be part of an international community of scholars. On completion of this programme students are able to: • Identify researchable civil engineering problems • Develop theoretical concepts, methodologies and techniques for solving complex civil engineering problems. • Use appropriate software to accrue and interpret data to identify the most appropriate intervention and facilitate the decision-making process. • Publish research in peer-referred journals. • Demonstrate an understanding of the processes for acquiring funding and evaluation of research. • Execute systems for the acquisition and collation of information through the effective use of appropriate resources. • Demonstrate ability to commercialise scientific findings through innovation

The aim of the programme is to equip students with advanced knowledge, concepts and skills in civil engineering to be applied in analysing problems and proposing solutions to the challenges facing infrastructure development across the regions. The programme has five pathways namely: • Water Engineering • Structural Engineering • Transportation Engineering • Geotechnical Engineering • Construction Management On completion of this programme students are able to: • Execute systems for the acquisition and collation of information through the effective use of appropriate resources • Solve complex civil engineering problems • Model civil engineering systems • Predict behaviour of civil engineering systems using appropriate simulations • Process data acquired from the systems • Apply critical thinking in problem identification and solving • Evaluate the scientific value of information from different knowledge resources, including legal information systems • Conduct research, interpret data and effectively communicate findings

The aim of the programme is to equip students with relevant knowledge and skills in civil engineering at technician level to support the development, maintenance and management of building and civil engineering infrastructure. On completion of this programme students are able to: • Conduct civil engineering experiments. • Conduct civil engineering investigations for well-defined problems. • Draft construction detailing using CAD. • Manage construction site • Use up-to-date surveying techniques in constructing civil engineering structures

The programme equips students with relevant knowledge and skills in civil engineering and it encompasses structural engineering, transportation engineering, water and waste water engineering. Students learn relevant structural engineering, highway engineering and water engineering softwares for the effective delivery of civil engineering solutions.
