Programme Summary

The programme equips students with relevant knowledge and skills in civil engineering and it encompasses structural engineering, transportation engineering, water and waste water engineering. Students learn relevant structural engineering, highway engineering and water engineering softwares for the effective delivery of civil engineering solutions.

Entry requirements

Normal entry: Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), “O” Level, IGCSE, or GCE with six credits including English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Physical Science/General Science; or A-level with a grade of at least C in English, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry. Mature Entry 1. Entry into year 2:
i. City and Guilds Advanced D iploma or its equivalent in Engineering ii. At least 4 credits at MSCE that includes in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Physical Science/General Science iii. Two years post qualification experience or iv. Board of Governors Diploma or its equivalent in Engineering v. Six credits at MSCE that includes in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Physical Science/General Science vi. Two years post qualification experience. 2. Entry into Year 3:
i. University Diploma in Civil Engineering ii. 6 credits at MSCE that includes in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Physical Science/General Science iii. Two years post qualification experience.

Career Prospects
A civil engineering graduate can work in public and private sectors as Civil/Highway/Structural/Water Engineer, Measurement Engineer, Construction supervisor, Hydrogeologist, Project Manager/Consultant
